{"id":490,"date":"2021-11-22T14:47:05","date_gmt":"2021-11-22T19:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/?p=490"},"modified":"2021-11-22T14:47:05","modified_gmt":"2021-11-22T19:47:05","slug":"u-of-t-ranks-16th-globally-in-u-s-news-world-report-university-ranking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/?p=490","title":{"rendered":"U of T ranks 16th globally in U.S. News &#038; World Report university ranking"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Toronto has risen one spot to 16<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0globally in the latest\u00a0<em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em>\u00a0university ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/best-global-universities\/rankings\">2022 edition of the Best Global Universities Rankings<\/a>, which are focused on research performance, placed U of T first in Canada and 16<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;in the world \u2013 a position it shared this year with Princeton University and University College London. That continues U of T\u2019s upward trajectory in the ranking from the previous year when it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utoronto.ca\/news\/u-t-ranks-17th-globally-one-spot-us-news-world-report-university-rankings\">moved into 17<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;position<\/a>&nbsp;globally, up one spot from a year earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among public universities, U of T continues to be ranked fifth in North America and seventh globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very pleased that once again&nbsp;<em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em>&nbsp;has recognized the University of Toronto among the world\u2019s very best research universities,\u201d said U of T President&nbsp;<strong>Meric Gertler<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would like to congratulate our exceptional faculty, librarians, staff and students for their contributions to world-leading, innovative research across a wide range of disciplines. They are playing a key role in developing new knowledge and tackling some of the world\u2019s most pressing challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U of T was also ranked among the top 10 universities globally in 13 subject areas: surgery (3<sup>rd<\/sup>); endocrinology and metabolism (4<sup>th<\/sup>); cardiac and cardiovascular systems (5<sup>th<\/sup>); clinical medicine (5<sup>th<\/sup>); oncology (5<sup>th<\/sup>); psychiatry\/psychology (8<sup>th<\/sup>); arts and humanities (9<sup>th<\/sup>); gastroenterology and hepatology (9<sup>th<\/sup>); molecular biology and genetics (9<sup>th<\/sup>); public, environmental and occupational health (9<sup>th<\/sup>); radiology, nuclear medicine and medical imaging (9<sup>th<\/sup>); biology and biochemistry (10<sup>th<\/sup>); and social sciences and public health (10<sup>th<\/sup>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, U of T was ranked first in Canada in 30 of the 43 subject areas covered in the ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em>&nbsp;ranking assessed 1,750 universities across 90 countries through the lens of research performance, as measured by indicators such as global and regional reputations, citations, scholarly publications, international collaboration and citation impact. Data was obtained from Clarivate Analytics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The methodology used to compile the rankings was identical to last year\u2019s ranking, with the exception that the most recent edition featured the addition of five new subject areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two other Canadian schools joined U of T among the top 100 globally in the most recent ranking: the University of British Columbia, which ranked 35<sup>th<\/sup>, and McGill University, which ranked 51<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top five universities in the 2022 edition of the ranking were Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Oxford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, U of T continues to be the highest-ranked Canadian university and one of the world\u2019s top-ranked public universities in the five most closely watched international rankings:\u00a0<em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em>\u2019s Best Global Universities,\u00a0<em>Times Higher Education<\/em>\u2019s World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy\u2019s Academic Ranking of World Universities,\u00a0and National Taiwan University World University Rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"673\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/UofT_Social-1024x673.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/UofT_Social-1024x673.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/UofT_Social-240x158.jpg 240w, https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/UofT_Social-768x505.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/UofT_Social-1536x1009.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blog.torontoeschool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/UofT_Social.jpg 1720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Toronto has risen one spot to 16th\u00a0globally in the latest\u00a0U.S. News &amp; World Report\u00a0university ranking.
